Blues are rock’s roots. Blues are Nina Simone.Wish i had the chance to see her perform, sitting on the piano singing “Love me or leave me” and “Oh, sinner man, where you gonna run to..?” and so many other great hits. What i can say about Nina Simone? First, she is my personal biggest influence in music, so it’s really hard to put it in some words. Her voice is like a summer breeze, and her words express so many things we are keeping inside.
Eunice Kathleen Waymon, (yes, that was her real name), was a civil rights activist, singer, songwriter and amazing pianist. Her talents led her to become one of the most influential women in jazz and blues music. The “High Priestess of Soul”, a title which she rightfully earned, had the amazing ability of performing many different styles, from pop and classical to blues and gospel. Some of the most important artists of our days, state her as a big influence to their own style : Mos Def, David Bowie, Nick Cave, Christina Aguilera and many others. Her personal style, involved turbans (long before we ever imagined on wearing one), satin feminine dresses, and low heels. A true, classic and chic style.

My favorite song , performed by Nina Simone? “I Put A Spell On You”

Nina, you definitely put a spell on us.
